Re: Snow Kiting

Probably a good idea, maybe we can pick a time and place to meet before heading up. That way people who don't know how to get there won't get lost. Are we all up for this?

by the way, is that you Grant?

Hey Brent, did you get out there today? how are the conditions?

Ken

Re: Snow Kiting

I didn't get out to Camden. Did check out the fort, elevator bay and lemoine.

The fort was way too windy and was unfortunately losing a fair bit of snow to the serious wind.

Elevator bay. I walked out a fair ways and it seem really solid. I didn't cut a hole but am satisfied for myself thats for sure. It also had about 95% snow cover but only about 2 inches that was a little wet and pretty easy to clear from the ice. Couldn't ride it,,, Needs to freeze crusty and get a little more snow to really work.

Lemoine Point. There is a decent little base with long grass coming through. Its was really gusty, but I threw up a 9m on short lines and rode around a little. Packed up thinking that it also needs another good dump of snow.

Hopefully tonight's forecast hits heavy and all but the big lake will be open for riding.

Getting to Camden Lake is really easy, it consists of making two turns.

Here are the Directions from Kingston:

Travel West on the 401.

Take exit 599 off the 401 by turning Right, north, on Highway 6 (Wilton Road) at Odessa.

Travel 19.6 km on highway 6. Turn Left onto Carp Road (There is a sign to Camden Lake recreation area).

Follow Carp road to the end, 3.1 km, and there you go.

And here is a map:

Map to Camden Lake

We can fit one person in our car for tomorrow . Call Leaf or Shawna at 613 531-0653 if anyone wants a ride.

Re: Snow Kiting

Nice work with the map and directions Leaf.

If the roads are bad I usually go a little further on the 401 to the next exit and approach the lake from the west on Moscow road. Will get the odometer readings next time I'm up there.

Not to throw confusion into peoples plan for tomorrow, but if the driving is terrible and we do get a decent dump of snow Elevator bay is a nice local option. Just needed more snow when I checked it yesterday, and hopefully what was on it has crusted nicely with the cold temp so you never feel the ice. Will check things out pretty early morn and get on here to see what peoples plans are. Would be great to get everyone out to the same place. So much more fun with a crowd.

The only hitch could be that the bulk of this weather is slated to hit tomorrow.

Will check back here soon.

Brent

Re: Snow Kiting

Just checked the wind prediction for tomorrow and it got some east in it. That makes it really gusty in E Bay so if the roads are too much of an issue Camden would probably be better.

Hey all,

Brent has just told me he is on his way to check conditions at elevator bay. If it's good there, we wouldn't have to make the drive on potentially hazardous roads up to camden lake. He'll report back here shortly.
