Flysurfers are cheating. If you use one, you have to strap a 35lb weight to the tip of your board as a handicap.

I see at silentsports they have a 2010 airush sector board that might do the trick for $549. So for the price of fins you get a board as well

The flysurfer board looks pretty crazy. I would like to see how they preform in the choppy kingston waves though..

http://ristafins.com/store/kite-race-tri-fin-set.html

Correction $625

These are the for sure good fins.

Check the speed of this dude.

Are fins that important? I think in this case it is VERY much so. Like good tires you need grip but also suspension.....

Am I in? not sure yet. emoticon

Re: Kiteboard racing at CORK

Finally had a chance to try out the flyrace down here at Kite Point. Wind was low, very low. 7 knots maybe? I was desperate emoticon. I'll be honest, I went down wind like an arrow! But I think it was due to two things, my lack of ability with this thing and the fact that that in the shallows of the sound I was reluctant to destroy my new board by putting the centre board down more than about three Inches. She got up on plane quickly and road fast. Even with the centre board down that little bit, the grip was insane! Gonna try it out again this morning at Canadian Hole where the water is deeper. It's totally different kind of riding. It's gonna take some practice to get the most outta this thing, for me anyway.

If you could go fast downwind then you should actually be able to get upwind with a little tweak of your technique. That board would be very different and should be ridden flat and let the fin do the work. Speaking as if I know anything about it LOL. I'm looking forward to trying it. I also need to finish my fatboy directional asap.

Had it out again the day before yesterday......very light wind again, kinda silly really. I had been flying the flysurfer to dry it out when the crew who were desperate for entertainment, urged me to go try it. I did. I dropped the dagger down almost all the way. Dipped the kite a couple of times and it shocked the hell outta me when I took off planing and heads up wind handily. It's so weird though. You really feel that fin doing it's thing. Thereis no sliding of the board in gusts it just sticks there. Bizarre feeling. It's a whole new game with this thing and I'm really having fun trying to figure it out.
