Re: Meeting at City Hall RE: development of breakwater park

Fellow MAMIN, no of fence ladies!

Nice to see a good contingent out for a long meeting, but I think it's great to get identified at the beginning  of the process and put some tangible input into their hands.  Big thanks to Brian for the handout.  Much more information than what gets put on those little cards they collected.  A few points I came away with we're the relative security of the lawn, the recognition of us as a group for consultation, and the way in which most of our interests and concerns dovetail nicely with the goals and limitations of the project.

The lawn itself is safe from any real construction or trees, as it sits on top
Settling tanks and plenty of pipes.  Our major concern it seems will be to spy things like that little (now dead) tree that made its way into prime kiter through way territory.  From the sound of it lighting is often prohibitively expensive along the waters edge, but it will be those sorts of things we as a group will need to watch for in the emerging plans.  Touching base with the organizing force behind Cork was useful as was getting a few of the other citizens there on board with preserving a spot for us.  All in all a useful exercise and the first time we as a group have needed to put our concerns forward.  For those of you who couldn't make it, there was a long and enthusiastic presentation not very specific to Kingston on shaping cities through coordinated and mindfully park design and management, followed by some q&a and an opportunity to speak with those involved in gathering public input.  There will be another round of public consultation in the form of another meeting sometime in June, then it goes to the design phase.

Cheers

Brent
