breakwater beach
has anyone heard of this potential proposal, to turn our favorite launch into a public beach for kids ?
http://www.thewhig.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1574520
that can't be good for our access.

Re: breakwater beach
I could be very wrong here, but it sounds to me that they are looking at the most western point, by the parking lot. Is that possible?

Re: breakwater beach
you could be right, but I read it as the beach where the pipe goes in. The article reads "western corner of (Break water Park), bordered by Lookout Point and Stony Point, ..." I don't know those names, but it sounds like between the dock and the point where the time statue is. Having hordes of swimmers in that area will raise serious safety issues when mixed with kiters that the city can't ignore.

Re: breakwater beach
Its only for where the windsurfers currently are at, so it shouldn't affect us unless you need to do an emergency landing there.
lots of details at this site: http://k7waterfront.org/
its also great for all things related to our waterfront, including kiteboarding.

Re: breakwater beach
According to the article, they have abandoned the idea of Richardson Beach, and are now studying the west end of Break Water park, adjacent to the Utility dock.

Re: breakwater beach
in fact, scanning the k7waterfront.com site, they have a link to the council meeting agenda on the topic.
http://www.cityofkingston.ca/pdf/council/agenda/2009/A12_Rpt54-Update.pdf
outlines where they are thinking of going, and page 12 of that report, has the following diagram (click the link for a simple JPEG.)
http://www.ktowntri.com/breakwater_park.jpg
That diagram doesn't seem to have a "Kiter's area" on it ! It has basically put a beach and play structure on top of our launch. I say we grab the pitch forks and storm city hall !!

It is right on the launch at PUC Re: breakwater beach
[EDIT] Mike you beat me to this....opps
Ok - So this is where they are talking about and its RIGHT where we do not want it.
Please look at page 14 of this document.
KBK-Launch-Turned-PeeGround
I really like the added touch of putting dozens of trees on the doc land making it impossible to launching a kite.
