I figured you guys would know the ice conditions well. See you out there sometime!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Hiero Blend)Thu, 19 Feb 2009 12:41:42 +0000 Re: Down windershttps://bkiteboardingkingston.runboard.com/p688,from=rss#post688https://bkiteboardingkingston.runboard.com/p688,from=rss#post688Hey Hiero Blend Those 4 crazy kiters Stan and Kim Woodman and buds JC and ACE. We do know the ice well on the island side for what thats worth. I have lived here all my life and I would be the last person to put my life or friends at risk. That day honestly you could drive a car on that path we were on. We did along the way check out the situation below the open track and it was really really thick! There are a lot of places where the ice is really dangerous and that is not obvious at first. Back in the day we drove cars across and although that is now banned for good reason it could have been the 401 that day. The ice in front by PUC is something to beware IMO. I have less experience there but I know it will be gone and I will still be riding safely on the island side Your concern is good as we all should be for our fellow kiters. Have fun and prey for snow. Stan and the boys from the island generally have a good read on ice in their neck of the woods, but a word of caution never hurt anyone. I'm hoping to get a long run in from west of the city down to the PUC as that run works nicely in our ususal winds and keeps the peeps far away from any open channels! Where do you launch from? nondisclosed_email@example.com (brent4336)Tue, 03 Feb 2009 10:32:12 +0000 Re: Down windershttps://bkiteboardingkingston.runboard.com/p653,from=rss#post653https://bkiteboardingkingston.runboard.com/p653,from=rss#post653I agree with Brent that its great some peeps are doing downwinders, but the 4 guys that did the Browns bay to Fort Henry were being pretty crazy. I was going to bite my tongue, but they were riding over or very near the winter water channel that the tug boat was breaking the ice Friday night. They may know more about the ice conditions closer to the island then I do, but never in 15 years have I seen anything cross that channel in the winter, including coyotes. Great day Sunday tho. We had 3 big kickers set by cedar island, feel free to cross over there and hit them with us next time.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Hiero Blend)Mon, 02 Feb 2009 21:57:04 +0000 Down windershttps://bkiteboardingkingston.runboard.com/p652,from=rss#post652https://bkiteboardingkingston.runboard.com/p652,from=rss#post652A couple locals did a nice big downwinder on Sunday and I've been rolling it over in my head ever since. It just makes sense to get as many of these in as possible before spring. Hatteras is all about the downwinder and its because when your not singularely focused on holding your upwind ground you can focus on learning the few thousand other skills that will make you a better rider. As long as were relatively sure the wind wont crap out on us we should be doing these runs. Lets face it, the snow off the PUC gets chewed up in a matter of a day or two after each dump and if it freezes hard like that its rut city. There is TONS of untouched snow out there and the best way to get it are nice big downwinders. Besides, the most fun I can think of in winter is pealing off downwind and carving big slalom turns in untouched snow. I'm definitely in to join you guys next time you wanna do one. Kudo's to you two for getting outside the little box we have carved for ourselves out there. nondisclosed_email@example.com (brent4336)Mon, 02 Feb 2009 16:35:35 +0000
