Snow Kiting?

Hello all,

Is anyone thinking about winter kiting yet? Supposed to get a nice dump tonight. I wonder if the ice is safe anywhere yet... Apparently someone was cross country skiing on the inner harbour yesterday and went through, fire department came and all.

Going to give the bay of Quinte a try. Wind might be a problem. Otherwise I will head down to West Lake.

the pond by Dupont is looking pretty solid and has some nice snow cover. Tomorrow morning there might be a breeze. I might head down there for an early session.

Re: Snow Kiting?

hey all,
Great looking snow out there. light and fluffy, been shoveling a lot!!

just a word of caution regarding elevator bay. I drive by it everyday on the way to work and it's not solid yet. Looks great now with the snow cover, but there's been open water patches even this week. The edges are still going to be quite soft too. I'd stick to solid ground for a bit yet. Anybody been out the Camden lake? or the fort?

Good call on E-bay, Paul - best let that spot get a little more solid!

Reports from Westport and areas around Cambden East say that the ice is between 4 and 6 inches, but I haven't been to either personally to check them out (yet). If you want to stick on land, a few of us tried out "the mound" at Grass Creek Park in a (very) light NE the other day, and it was pretty fun - this might be the best NE to E option close to town. The Fort (base kingston side, unless you go after sundown) should be fine in anything S, W and N.

I'm going to make a new Forum section called "Session Call", and this is just a place to quickly tell folks where and when you'll be riding - particularly helpful for those who might otherwise be riding on their own!

Cheers all,
BRI

Hey Brian, for kiting at the fort you said "unless you go after sundown". Are there are areas that are off limits? Please clarify...

Thanks,
Rob

Hey Rob,

What Brian means by that is that after sun down there aren't usually many or any children tobagganing. As you can imagine the fort isn't a huge area to go kiting on (it is a really fun one though) so we don't want to come in close contact with any of the tobogganers. Last thing we want to do as always, is to anger any of the parents thus giving kiters a bad rap. I've ridden there plenty of times at night. It has lot's of wind and is tons of fun.

I'm pretty sure that is what he was getting at anyway.
