Re: Jan 21

Ya I've kinda given up on the winter as well.

I can barely stand on skates without a kite, but looks like fun Rob.

Perhaps the benefit of a mild winter and not much ice is that the water will warm up quicker in the spring? We can only hope!

I might just have to get in the water the next day it gets a few degrees above with some sunshine. I'm posted in Picton at the moment so Sandbanks will be ok for testing my cold water limits.

Tell ya what... if you go in the water, at Sandbanks, in February... I'll be there to take pictures and forever more you'll be known as, well... I'll think of something. I did make a homemade version of a 'switchblade' ... it was easy. check out this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EWmrSo-ZY0 Since I suck on skates too, I needed something better, more 'board-like'. I just came in an hour ago from trying it out... still wiping the tears from my eyes - it was FAST!

Thats a cool looking board in the video.

SBX is completely ice free, there is no ice at the sandbanks beach or outlet beach. Went to check it out yesterday.

Just if anyone else is thinking about checking it out on a mild day emoticon

Solo sessioned friday afternoon at Sandbanks. Crazy novelty to score waves in mid Feb.

ramped up to about 20 knots. Was about 3 degrees and off and on sun. Nice clean waves between knee and hip.

Felt great to get a good water session in though it took a little longer than usual to get in to any kind of groove!

At the gates to Sandbanks (northern beach) you take the road out the point and park there. Its a pretty quick walk down a path onto and then up the beach. I only go up past the first bunch of trees to get a decent launch. PM me with a number if you want a text next time. Tomorrow and Fri look decent but I'm not sure I can spare the time.

Yes please, let me know if you think you might get out there again, this is not ideal weather for solo riding! I'm actually going to bring my gear tomorrow (27th) but not for sure that I can get out.

I'll try to PM my number.
